Mid MarchA Poem by Wild RoseMid-March Winter still hanging on With frosty mornings Scrape the ice off windscreens Warm coats, hat and gloves, against the chill wind
In the garden the remaining leaves of gone-over Crocus flowers Empty twigs on patio shrubs in pots Rockery plants hanging from a wall with brown dead growth hanging on Winter pansy's waiting to be replaced
And yet there are signs of spring Leaf buds on the Fuchsia hedge On the wall the upright Camellia Bush is full of flowers A huge splurge of pink against the dark green leaves
Daffy's in odd clumps Some in full flower Others in developing bud Promising a better show
Grass is growing - needs a trim Check for frost overnight Carefully trim around past displays To let the leaves, die back and feed the bulb
Birds: Goldfinch and Small Tits have returned from winter in the sun hols Blackbirds, Sparrows and the Robin Dashing about collecting twigs, bits of soft bedding To build their nests
Days are longer Sun rise earlier Sunset now follows our evening meal Soon the wished for, warmer weather, will be with us
