Strip the Willow

Oh yes, A Scottish dance called "Strip the Willow"

Two lines men and ladies facing each other

The music starts. Harmonium, Fiddle, Drummer

People begin to clap and stamp their feet to the beat

Dom ddi dom did dom

The first two meet and link arms they twirl between the line to the end

Dom didi dom didi dom

At the end they revers linking arms and twirling each person in turn and in between twirl their partner

Like the Greeks Dance hectic twirling; twirling; twirling

Left arm, righr arm left right arm

Dom did dom did dom

reaching the end of the run the turn and dance the same rhythm to the end and form an arch

The line follows the leaders and under the arch

Now there are the new leaders

Twirling; twirling twirling

Dom didod didom did dom

Twirling twirling

love to dance, and loved this poem....learned to line dance at a wedding...never big on country music or country dancing before that...but it was fun to work together in rhythm as a group...
very cool...and this one had that scottish accent which makes it all the more fun to dance to.

There is a certain poetry in people coming together in celebration and in dancing. Your poem captures this well.

They just stand in the corner and watch others jump
This takes me back to the good old school days.
Though I'm sure it was a bit of a shambles to begin with, a bit like the military two-step that I recall.
Prefer the music now.

This must not be easy to do. Needs practice plenty and you got to get the spirit of it. Nice. Do they still do this now?
