Guiding Light

Guiding Light

A Poem by Wild Rose
"

hot taken Maryport Lighthouse (Harbour entrance) at sunset

"

Down by the lighthouse at the harbour entrance

The fisher men gather at high tide

Baiting their lines

Casting them to the rising sea

To catch a meal

A tasty morsel

Tomorrows dinner

Food for the family

Fishing boats are gone

To places afar

Places they seek

Where the fish are plenty

Cast their nets to the sea

Now the wait

Haul them back

Inspect the catch

Empty the nets

Cast them back

So it goes

Until time for home

Guiding light

Still shining bright

Shows the way

To home and family

Catch is emptied

Sorted sold

Gone to shops

Food for the people

beautiful scene painted with your words...reminds me of being at the oldest park in the states in Salem, Mass...looking out at the Atlantic and then looking back at the big house with railed roof where the wives waited for their fishermen husbands to come home from sea.

Your words are a fine match for your posted imagery Wild Rose. I very much enjoyed your lines about fishermen catching fish for their family and for their living. I love staying at Brixham in Devon which is a small fishing town, so I can be close to this lifestyle. Not an easy occupation, out in all weather's, but a very satisfying one.
