Old Harbour

Old Harbour

A Poem by Wild Rose

Once a busy thriving place

Sailing ship from across the world

Hauled in by many hands

Goods discharged

New ones take their place

Sail again on the evening tide

Small boat now find berths to rest

Pleasure, Fishing, now the trade

Harbour side warehouse now are flats

Weekend homes where goods once plied

Tourists come to see and marvel at peacefulness

Evening all boats at rest

Weather calm

Slowly runs the tide

Sun goes down

Darkness Falls

Tomorrow will just go calmly on

i like the picture you paint with your words..it makes me relate as i remember being in Salem, Mass. at the oldest park in our country...it is on the waterfront...ocean front...and there is a house with a roof on which women would wait for their fishermen husbands to return from their treks.
beautiful place...your harbor is also beautiful with your description.

This poem feels like there is some critter observing everything from a distance, detached . . . I get the idea that your message conveys a mournful spirit for the loss of these old-time sea-farer routines, but you do this with a terse acerbic delivery which feels detached. I can always count on you to mix it up when telling of interesting worldly observations (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

This reminds me of many places on our coastline that were once busy ports but are now in decline. Also for our fishing industry. Now reduced to nothing more than a trickle. That's progress for you, but on the other hand, they return back to their more natural state which can be more beautiful. Your photograph which accompanies is as delightful as your words are. Good morning Wild Rose. Hope you and yours are well.

the calm belies the tempest of the Sea and bustling harbor town ... a dramatic change ... and i love the pic ... i keep going from poem to pic to poem again ... the harbor has such a "drying up" quality to me .. that hint of lurking storm stays with me tho tranquility abounds ... the castle in the background is too cool! is this a place you have been?

It is crazy how the world can change. In my time. I seen whole cities transformed. Most times for the better. I enjoyed the field trip with you dear friend. Thank you for sharing the amazing poetry.

I recall when I was younger there was a boat-yard where boats would go back and forth all day. I went by there 3 weeks ago and found a very quiet boat graveyard. Things change. Some things go easier, some just disappear.
