Do You Remember The Village Harvest Fete

Do You Remember The Village Harvest Fete

A Chapter by Wild Rose

Do you remember: The Village Harvest Fete?

Late summer Autumn on it way
A Saturday afternoon
Knees up on the village green

Running races for children
Sack races
Just look at her she puts a foot in each corner and runs
Three-legged races
Both prove lots of laughs
Egg and spoon
Poor Billy keeps dropping his egg
Aye he's a clumsy lad
Clumsy is as clumsy looks - they say
A few tears Little Alice hurt her knee

Swings and roundabouts
Bonny babes
Knobbly knees
Glamorous grannies
Oh has she entered again She's only thirty-nine and
Two grandkids
I ask you

Flower competition
Biggest onion
Three Carrots, three apples, and peas in pods
Dog obedience
Oh look
"Old Joes" dog has run off

The cake stall
Beer tent
Apple ducking
Oh you're all wet

So it goes something for everyone
Hard work over
Time to enjoy

Tomorrow is
Harvest Festival
In the church
Stuff from the veg competition is
Given for decoration
Then to the "Old Folks Home"

All will be eaten
Winners or not

This is the best thing of yours I've read, poem or story, in a long time! I love this! You bring up great details & you express them in an animated way, as if the action is being narrated as it happens. I grew up an hour's drive from the nearest town, where I went to high school, & out in the boondocks we had a grange hall where these kinds of potlucks & white elephant sales & card games & such were held periodically thru-out the year. Great feelings of nostalgia conjured up with this one! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie
