Do You Remember: Harvest Time ?

Morning milking over

Nourishing breakfast was eaten

Jobs to do in the dairy

Full churns down to the gate

 

Tractors are in the yard

Check the oil

Fill the fuel

Prepared for a long hard day

 

Reaper from it shed

Clean and oil

Tying band threaded through

Spare bobbins three in the box

 

Sun is up

The corn is drying

Within the hour the man

Couple reaper to the tractor

 

Off we go down the lane

First tractor with a flat trailer

Men one with scythe

Tools and equipment for the day

 

Clear the thorns

To make away

Reaper brought to the front

Of it sets to start the day

 

Flails hold corn for the cutter

Corn in sheafs

Are spat out

To lay flat upon the ground

 

Men follow on foot

Pick two sheafs

Stand the in six to make a stook

Like small tents or houses look

 

Round and round the field they work

No time for rest - No shirk

Till at last the field is done

All that's left few stooks to build

 

Now a swig from the cold tea

From the lemonade bottle

Mop your brow

On the way to the next field

I love the idea of harvest time, but your poem brings the details of this time of year to life (hard work & all!) I often tell the newer writers to use lots of details becuz that's what makes a poem sound original & vivid. Writing is bringing back the details
Actually the harvest was a holiday on uncles farm
We lived in an industrial town - streets of houses
Some of the streets (like ours) with cobbles (granite blocks with rounded tops to allow horses get a grip - specially on steep hills)
