Wild EnnerdaleA Poem by Wild RoseEnnerdale valley one of my favourite places Ennerdale The Weir - Anglers Crag on the right A closed valley in West Cumbria The Western Lakes Not here the crowds of visitors Not like Brighton or Blackpool's beaches
The air clear Fresh from the sea No traffic noise or smell No nasty industrial smell
Twenty five miles From here To Great Gable Then on further over the tops
T'was the nineteen thirty's they saw The lake level raised To provide water for industry On the west coast
Fir trees were planted Native ones removed To provide timber For houses and industrial use
No longer are they required Native trees planted To replace The foreign fir
Now left to nature Access only on foot or bike An outdoor study centre And Youth Hostel - Black Sail
A remote pace Nearest habitation Gatesgarth Farm In Buttermere valley
Ten miles over the Gatesgarth Path By bridle path Foot: Bike; Horse The only transport
An haven for wild life and plant Long may it last To pass on To future generations
