Something inside me so strong says "I can do it"
I know I can make it
 
You said it would be too hard
I found it so easy
 
You dealt me a bad hand
I overcame it
 
You tried to beat me down
I rose above you
 
You said I was wrong
I proved you were the wrong one
 
You took away my ladders
I climbed the cliffs without
 
You were my boss

Like this. Achieving your ambitions whilst at the same time surpassing all that others thought you capable of.
Much to the disbelief of many a carpenter I manage a group of 50 men over 12 new build housing sites with no back ground in this trade. Common sense and an interest in the job go a long way to enabling success.

Leaving school I wanted to be an electrician > Boys like you cannt be electricians Only grammar school boy can do that you are getting too big for your boots you have to go to night school and do hard sums - You will do what I tell you to


About 2 months after leaving school a form came from the 'Labour exchange'
We have no record of where you are working; what you are doing; your hours of work and wage

I returned it - You refused to find me the job I wanted > I dont care about your records _______

At 18 we had to register for national service - If you were studying you got an exemption > apprentices taking a trade up to those taking medical exams
The man behind the desk was the one who said "You can't be an electrician" still being nasty "You will do as your told now" I replied "not for another three years and not by you"

Think I became more independent at 11 YO when I was given dads old racing bike and set off alone to explore the roads and byways near home at 12 YO joined a cycling club. My explorations went far wider and across the open moors alone (read my 'Pockstones Moor' poem)

good for you...a lot of my wife's relatives spent their working lives in the old mills and factories in and around Lancashire....
