WildfireA Poem by Rose HagertyWe may go up in flames, but I'm not the one who lit the match.Pulsating Throbbing Red hot iron lacerating My insides boil and bubble Iron metal spikes stab and jab my tongue Words like fire sear and char my heart As I flicker and flare Scorching hot like an oven You take a lighter And light the match A flickering spark ignites And in a single second It’s all it takes for me to combust I scorch and sear I become an inferno, bearing down As my flames devour I melt and scorch The floor boards beneath where we stand And up we go in flames Crying and screaming out in pain But when I die down and smoke and wither out You and me singed and seared by the heat All sizzled out You brand me a wildfire Out of control But why then Do you still hold So tight and dearly A lighter and gasoline in each hand? © 2017 Rose HagertyAuthor's Note
