The Choice

The Choice

A Story by Rose Hagerty
"

An impossible choice. Is it really a choice?

"

What would you do if you were given an impossibly hard choice? A choice that no matter what you do, you always lose. What would you do? I had to make that choice, and someday in your life you may have to make that choice too.

We all have people we love, that we want to protect. If someone were to tell you to decide between them or some random person to save, you’d pick them any day. Family over a stranger. Who can blame you. Most would do that too. I am no different from anyone else. I love my father and mother and my little sister too. I stand to protect them.

But there may come a time where you are forced to make a decision that is never morally right. A choice to save one. One of your family members over another one. Who would you save? Your parents or siblings. No matter who you choose it will never be right. There is no winning in this situation, only losing. So who do you lose? Who do you abandon? The decision is never easy. I had to make that choice. I saved only one. Does it matter who?

I’m both hero and villain in an impossible choice. Now I ask you again. What would you do?
