Arguments with the woman in the mirror

Arguments with the woman in the mirror

A Poem by Crystal

"This is what beauty is"
An image of perfection,
No flaws in sight.
So this is what beauty is?

A lashing of makeup.
Maybe I too can have those chiseled cheekbones,
Maybe I too can have those luscious red lips
Maybe I too can have eyes that pierce the dark.

A revealing outfit.
Maybe I too can have those impossibly big breasts,
Maybe I too can have that barely there waist
Maybe I too can have that curvy bum.

A walk towards the mirror
And the illusion fades.
I compare myself
And I never measure up.
I let the clothes fall
Because who were they kidding anyway.

I am naked
And so is my reflection.
My makeup smudges
With the tear running down my face.
I examine myself
Through blurry vision.
I am not perfect
I am not perfect
I am not perfect.

Bleeding knuckles
As shards
Fall away from the mirror,
Both image and reflection broken
myself sobbing
In amongst
The imperfect chaos.
