Ocean

Ocean

A Poem by CrystalJae

You were an ocean,

Both deep and vast.

Expanding far beyond that which the eye could see.

There were days when you were cold

and your darkness surrounded me,

Preventing my heart from seeing what lie clearly ahead.

Your mysterious ways were intriguing,

Hypnotizing,

Forcing me to follow your tide.

I awaited the days when your waves were warm and exciting.

Embracing me fully and letting me bask in your elements.

Soothing.

Both mentally and physically.

You were an ocean.

Water.

A key piece of life.

But There were days when you drowned me violently, and others when I forced myself to swim.

Some moments, you left me breathless.

Out of beauty.

Out of pain.

Then there were times you left me lifeless.

Dead to the world,

Dead to myself.

Yet still you occupied my lungs, like air.

I have fought the good fight against your current

Taken by your riptide.

But today I choose to drift away from you.

Searching for land.

Feet planted firmly into the sand.

Don't pull me in.

Let me go.

Let the sunset behind me as I walk into my own horizon.

You were an ocean

Sometimes gentle

Sometimes menacing beyond all belief.

You were an ocean,

But today,

I'm leaving you behind.

Sounds like a survivor's story, a revelation by one who has tasted both the delights and terrors of the drug called romantic love. May the next venture be guided by the learning gained from this one.

PS: In line 6, consider changing lie to lay.
