Names of the Many

Names of the Many

A Poem by Shiningwolf

What is a name?
  A tag, some would say
Perhaps even a title in this game
  The game of life.

A signature here or an initial there
  What does it all mean?
Does anyone really even care?
  Perhaps not.

A name given to oneself through birth
  Remains for a lifetime
So long as they remain on Earth.
  Interesting is it not?

Some would say a name holds meaning
  Or some great secret
However in the end, it is all fleeting.
For a name dies with a person, does it not?

A name is something magnificent in its own way
For the accomplishments of an individual are saved to it
People will remember the name, or so they say.
But who are we to judge?

A name holds a person's individuality
Names can be shared by many
But only one person can own it, if they have the right mentality
Think of a name as a glass case.

A glass case is the foundation that holds precious memories
  These memories are the person
As they travel through life, going on journeys
  The glass case becomes full.

When it shatters, the journey is over
But someone will come along and pick up the pieces
They will build something new
And the name will live on.

Very interesting write. I don't think I've read anything that goes into depth like this, by starting with something as 'simple' as a name. Well done :)
