Break Free

Break Free

Where are you, you say?
A cage, you say.

Why my good friend;
If I might ask,
Are you in a cage?

They put you there, you say.
They held you back, you say.

Cruel!
I exclaim.
It is cruel to lock you up in that cage.

Why don't you break out,
I ask you, my friend.
Why do you not leave?

I can not, you say.

Why not?
I ask.

Because of them,
You proclaim.
Because they whom I love have locked me away!
Behind bars off words and bars of tradition!

Break Free!
I command!
Break Free from the prison that those whom you love have placed you in.
Break Free!
And Become who you truly are.
For no one is tainted in the beginning,
And it is that which happens in life that darkens our soul.
Break Free from that which could harm you,
That could harm you in ways that would later become untouchable.
And Broken.

I can not,
You Say.

Why Not?
I Ask.

Wow! This poem was astounding!

The whole idea of being locked in a cage is an idea authors have used for YEARS, and yet you managed to take it and make it your own. Those last two lines really hit home and made the reader kinda think about why we say we can't do things that in all actuallity we can. All we need sometimes is a little push, and thats what I saw here. Excellent write :)

This is makes me think of the song "Breakaway" by Kelly Clarkson. You should go and listen to it!!! Beautiful poem, simple and sweet. I love how you ended this with "I cannot" and "Why not". Sometimes I feel like I just can't do something. And then my friend asks me why and I can't tell her. Because I don't know! You have captured the feeling of being hopelessly torn completely, in a cute way. :)
