Chapter One: A New BeginningA Chapter by Crystal Marie RomeA young girl wakes up with no memory of who she is and where she was. (This first chapter is third person, the rest of it will be first person)
A young girl floated in empty white space, she was nothing, she was everything, at the same time she just existed though she had no identity, she was no one.
The young girl was in a clearing laying on her back. Her golden brown hair that reached her waist fanned out around her. Her eyes opened and they were bright green, she saw sky and clouds and tree tops. The girl sat up and turned her eyes on the new world she now existed in. In front of her was a small clear pond, around her she was surrounded by trees, all of them extremely old and large. Getting on her hands and knees the girl crawled over to the pond and looked in. She noticed a slightly plump face with prominent cheekbones, angled eyes that slightly looked like a cats eyes, a small nose, and plump pink lips. Then the girl looked at her body and saw that she was clothed in a bright green silk dress that shined in the sun. Having checked her surroundings sufficiently the girl stood and turned her back on the pond and started walking. The girl had been walking for so long that the sun which had been high in the sky when she awoke was now sinking below the horizon. The scenery hadn't changed much when in front of the girl a light was shining. She stepped out of the trees and before her was a bustling and loud tavern. In front of the tavern a stout peach tree stood in front of the tavern, the young girl yawned and walked over to the tree. Stumbling from tiredness the girl lay down and fell asleep under the peach tree. "BY TEARGOTHE'S TUSKS WHAT ARE YOU DOING?" A shrill voice woke the girl and she opened her eyes to see a woman standing above her with a look of rage on her thin face. The woman's eyes were an electric blue, her skin was slightly light than the color of old parchment, and her lips were a little fuller than razor thin. Her dirty blond hair was tied up into a untidy bun at the nape of her neck. The girl sat up and looked at the woman, a single tear rolled down her cheek. The woman sighed and the anger on her face wavered. "Why are you sleeping under my peach tree?" The woman was controlling her voice but just barely. "I-I d-don't know." The girls voice was like a cool mountain stream just warming up in the sun. "Well then what's your name?" A frown line showed itself between the woman's eyes and her mouth, which was in a nasty grimace, turned into a frown of concern. The girl opened her mouth and thought, then with a certainty that came out of the blue she said, "Ekaci Morlio." "I'm Dorrean Runelow, why don't you come in for a cup of tea?" The woman offered her hand to the girl. Looking slightly unsure of herself Ekaci took Dorrean's hand and the woman led her inside. The inside of the tavern looked bright and welcoming -and a lot cleaner than most taverns-. A few tables were set across the room with plenty of chairs and a bar stood against the far wall. Dorrean sat Ekaci down on one of the closer tables and walked over to a stair case on the left side of the room. "Riley! Get your butt down here! We have a guest!" Dorrean bellowed, making the room echo. A thump and a few hurried foot steps sounded from the second floor. A few minutes later a young lanky boy stumbled down the stairs with his dirty blond hair tousled and his blue eyes sleepy. "I'm up Mom, I'm up." Riley mumbled. His eyes turned to Ekaci. "Whose she?" Dorrean shrugged. "She says her name is Ekaci Morlio, I found her sleeping outside under the peach tree. Go make some tea please." Dorrean turned to Ekaci and asked. "Are you hungry?" "I don't know." Dorrean turned back to Riley with a sigh. "Get some of yesterday's bread as well." Riley nodded and headed of into a door next to the bar. Ten minutes later Riley came back out carrying a serving tray with a teapot, three tea cups, and some sliced wheat bread. He set the tray down on the table Ekaci was sitting at and sat down in the chair next to the girls, Dorrean sat down next to Riley. "So Ekaci where are you from?" Dorrean asked the girl. "I don't know." "Do you remember your family?" "No." Ekaci shook her head. "Then where did you come from?" Impatience started to edge Dorrean's voice as she said it. "I woke up in the woods and just started walking and when it got dark I found this place and fell asleep." The girl cast her eyes to the floor, a little ashamed of trespassing on someones land. Dorrean looked at her son then thought for a moment. "So you don't remember anything at all except your name?" Ekaci nodded. A big smile spread across Dorrean's face. "Why don't you stay here? You could work of board and meals. We certainly need the help." The young girl's eyes widened and she nodded again. Ekaci Morlio then stayed at the tavern known as the Boar's Tusk. Dorrean Runelow became a mother to her and Riley Runelow a brother. They lived together on the edge of a small trade town known as Anvilmar. Ekaci got a best friend with a tailor's daughter down the street named Sara Pothan. A growing number of admirers sprung up from the town boys for Ekaci and was known as the Lost Lady of Anvilmar. The day she emerged from the woods was the day that became her 13th birthday.
