Keep you safe

Keep you safe

A Poem by Crystal Overmeyer-Birmingham

I would keep you
in a cottage by the sea
Blue curtains
breathing with the breeze
Wild flower crowns
and pebble shores
I would gather you close
I would hold on tight
Knowing that this moment
the glass jar
would shatter
would crack
Like a bomb
like a gun
screams and blood
The innocence wouldn't last
The golden hues of yesterday
would splinter and die among the ash
You've exchanged crowns for crosses
Life for the face of a cause

Oh, Had I kept you
in a cottage by the sea!
I might be waiting your journey home, instead of you waiting for me.

Wow! at first it seemed like it was going to flow into like a love poem of expressing intentions benign in nature.. but then it suddenly transitions into something more intense and almost violent! now im not too sure how you intend to have the last set of lines understood.. but I interpret them in conjunction with the mentions o a bomb, glass jar, and a gun.. did she kill her lover? and now he waits for her in heaven?

In any case you have a very well written piece here sweetie!

About
I am a poet by nature. Words just speak to me and color my world. I away think of poetry as painting with phases, just as vibrant and life giving as they are messy and complex. more..
