Pools

Pools

A Poem by Crystal Overmeyer-Birmingham

I use to swim in this pool with you

Cool and refreshing

We drank in our youthfulness

And splashed about in the waves of ignorant bliss

Cannon balls and Marco Polo

we grabbed life by the hands

and watched as the water filtered out.

Clear and clean

chlorine now clogs my pores and bleaches my soul

You beckon with green tainted hair for me to join

But now this pool seems too small

Coming only to my knees I am left covering myself

I need a new pool to play in or maybe an ocean to swim in.

I love the metaphor. Now i miss swimming, the ocean. Because really whats a pool when you have the ocean in front of you? It brings up an interesting layer to the poem as well. You've outgrown the pool and see its disadvantages, but its also calm, safe. The ocean is new. Something wild. Love the poem keep it up.

swim in the ocean of his soul...as long as he's not tainted you won't be bleached.

I love how you used the theme of a swimming pool here Crystal, but most importantly your reference towards the ocean because you deserve it. We all do!

Crystal, I love clicking on a rr from you; I never know what will be there but I know I'll like it a lot. This makes me go back to when I was young a zillion years ago; we used to swim in our neighbor's above-ground pool and play Marco Polo and do cannon-balls...then we grew up and the pool was just so damn SMALL! We didn't have the option of heading for the ocean, but your point is so well made; like everything else, as we grow so must our surroundings, so must our reach. A beautiful write! take care...dan

Thank you TEE
I like the beginning of them poem because it actually brought me back to when I was young playing in the pool and playing those games for hours upon end. The last part has my mind racing trying to understand what happened. I know as a reader sometime we are always meant to understand. Nice Crystal.
