TaintedA Poem by Crystal Overmeyer-BirminghamYour words stuck to my lips and color my world Try as I might to brush the crumbs from my mind You linger You permeate my senses And cling to my confidence Your anger clouds Your ill temped turn of phrase bloodies my nose and blackens
my eyes I hear your tone in every touch he makes Every sweet nothing has an undercurrent of your essence Words meant to entice, terrify Soft hands meant to entrance, feel like a straggle Tightening over my throat cutting off the air I need. Life was not meant to be enjoyed this way Love isn’t supposed to hurt or so the saying goes As he leans in to steal my fear and kiss away my pain I pray I see his intent and not yours I pray I remember as he gathers me close He’s not you. © 2015 Crystal Overmeyer-BirminghamReviews
