new and shinyA Poem by Crystal Overmeyer-Birmingham
In our youth
we sat on hills Staring down at life all the was shiny and new The lies that were taught to us sticking to our lips, tongue and fingers Smoking in half truths and coughing over the fumes The world version of the so called "Good Life" Too old to fake it To young to care we owned that spot of the earth flying our flags high and unapologetic we stepped on crumbles plans and bruised dreams we lit life to the fullest and threw the butts on the ground only vaguely aware of these decisions would effect tomorrows realities.
