![]() Good ByeA Poem by Crystal Overmeyer-Birmingham![]() I recently had to say good bye to a friendship that lasted 13 years. This was born out of trying to explain why i need to move on. Sometimes paths fork and people choose to travel on alone.![]() Toe to Toe we measured the other Hair to sandals and back again Looking for a reflection of the friend we once loved I started at your hazels eyes And you in my browns I mimicked your smile and hoped you didn't see the results on my search You were not the girl in denim The girl that I cried to and shared all my stories You were new Different But then again so was I I was no longer the friend that made funny faces and made you laugh I was no longer the girl that wrote letters and pasted notebooks I was different We were different When did that happen? In-between the cracks we slipped and slept though the change Dreaming of past glory and bathing ourselves in the golden days of nostalgia We awakened to find the differences were laid out like a new outfit for the first day of school We no longer fit our old friendship Someone has to be the first to tear the tags and burn the receipts Someone has to be the start of the end So I summon up my courage and square my shoulders Eye to eye I am going to miss you © 2015 Crystal Overmeyer-BirminghamReviews
