Deep Cosmos

Deep Cosmos

A Poem by Crozby

O, deep cosmos,

Unending void:

Little is so bewildering,

Little is so beautiful,

And nothing is so unknown.

Outside our world

Lies something beyond us,

Something we can’t control,

Something we can’t govern,

Something we can’t know.

You make so many feel so insignificant;

So powerless in the face,

Of something so grand,

So unbelievably grand.

But not I.

I don’t cower

In fear of the unknown,

I charge headlong.

I don’t feel small compared to something so large,

I am thankful to be part of something,

Something so much bigger than me.

Because you know what?

Just as a clock doesn’t function without each gear,

The universe isn’t the same without you.

We each make our mark on it,

We each scratch our name

On our corner of it,

Our insignificant corner.

And impossibly small though it is,

It’s a corner all our own.

And whether that name be written,

In shaky trepidation-

Or exuberant confidence,

Is up to you.

Author's Note

Crozby
Been a while since I've written. Study hall is about my only time, so I crank out shorter poems like this when I can. So, I haven't spent too much time with it. That being said, be as critical as you wish.
