My Legacy

My Legacy

A Story by Aiden Cross
"

A short story of my son.

"
Before I left for Iraq, my wife told me we were going to become a family.  I couldn't have been more excited.  I wasn't there for the ultrasounds or to feel kicks in the womb because I was fighting for not only my wife's freedom, but now my soon to be son or daughter.   The day I received the ultrasound in the mail I was overcome with joy.  A son!  I was to be the father of a little boy that I could teach and hopefuly inspire. To be a father to him the way mine was for me.  I made it off the jet just in time for my Commander to rush me to the hospital because my wife was in labor.  My little man is almost here!  I scrub and suit up and hold my wife's hand.  I see my baby boy.  This is the moment I've waited for my entire life.  I couldn't wait to see him and start our family's future so I used all my incentive pay to furnish you a wonderful room, start your college fund and buy you nothing but the best toys.  Months go by amd I am the happiest father and husband on earth.  I can't wait to hear "da da".  Then, my little boy got sick.  Cancer they said.  There isn't much they can do.  My son stayed with us only a few short months after that.  I died along with him I think.  I love my lil boy ...
I would've loved to see him run and play. Graduate college and have a family of his own.  I can't.
My wife commited suicide shortly after that.   I will never hear her I love yous'.  I never heard "da da".

Thank you. Good thing you can't imagine. I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy.
