The Life of a Women

The Life of a Women

A Poem by Cristina Hinojosa

The life of a women can be very dark
It is certainly not a stroll in the park
We are convinced we have to look a certain way
Otherwise men will not give us the time of day
We are set up with goals, much rather guidelines
Tall..Thin..Sweet..Innocent.. Always dressed to the nines
We are beaten down by society's ideals
Told that we need to wear make-up and painful high heels
We look in the mirror and feel lost
We buy into these beauty standards at any cost
We spend time, money and emotions to feel beautiful
That we soon forget who we are as an individual
But what is it all for?
Why must society always ask for more?
The life of a women can be very dark
It is most certainly not a stroll in the park
