On Being HumanA Poem by Anabel SolanoPoem about human nature, its failure and growth.Human beings are a mystery We go to war and never say we are sorry Brilliant race of prancing apes We copy ourselves Have backwards knowledge of the cosmos, Simple answers to difficult questions Our lives ruled by comfort not reason But once in a while The brilliance will shine through One kind or selfless act will redeem us Unique thoughts and ideas Inventions to rival genius When we pull together we are gorgeous Human beings are difficult The most stubborn and hardheaded of the
species The only ones that will bite the hand
that feeds Just for kicks Never heeding what the warning reads Plunging through and coming out on top Toughing through it win or not Seeing triumph that we sought And not caring if we are caught Human beings are diverse In times of trial some disperse But when faced with trouble we burst With courage through the worst Nurture, care and hurt Humble, arrogant, and confident We emerge from the flames Newly made and more unique Than the last time we were here. Human beings are hope That we can grow to be better That life has meaning Even if it’s only ours And this is enough To work to buff Out all the bad And live with the flaws And make them better too So when we are faced with trial after
trial We stop and think for a while Of a sound solution Walking a mile In another person’s shoes And showing the growth of a species That was only allowed a bit of fire to
work with. © 2017 Anabel SolanoAuthor's Note
