Autumn MasqueradeA Poem by OctoberDawnAn ode to October thirty-first.Jack o' lantern smiles cut out with fervent care, Candles placed inside them, ignite a ghoulish glare. The eyes of every child are filled with that same fire, Fueled by the treats of autumn and a mischievous desire. The moon is fat and happy, he smiles from above, The trees all sing a medley as wind through them is shoved. In a land of halloween the black cat reigns supreme, His eyes, the jewels of his crown, are a dreamers greatest dream. The laughing spectres dodge; a game of hide and seek, Calling the bravest of the children to come and take a peek. The night is full of laughter but remains somehow serene, Its song is slow and reverent, its air is crisp and clean. It whispers wistful secrets, its chill brings lovers close, Its mystery precedes it, the season of the prose. Tales of headless horsemen and dreams that follow suit, To quick firefly races and sly owls in hot pursuit. The bright and early dawn of the November morning air, Can stand to wait a while, this day comes once a year. Tomorrow when I wake, in a new month now immersed, I'll begin to count the days until October thirty-first. © 2012 OctoberDawnAuthor's Note
