Mi Pappa (My Father)

Mi Pappa (My Father)

A Poem by Esteban Luis Soto
"

A poem I wrote after visiting my father last.

"
When last I'd seen you
You sat, a weathered frame
Of a man thirty years prior
Arms crossed loving - feeble

Gazing into the screen
Through coke-bottle glasses
The gravity of generations

Upon your brow

I screamed in silence
For your pride - acceptance
Knowing you were prideful,
Loving of your child

The great timekeeper,
Yet to halt your clock, is near
As the soothsayer's breath
Through our hollowing bones

So I mourn you now, my hero
Thunder ever-echoing our name
For I fear my wails will not
Carry into the third plane

Very nice poem about love of a father. I've have forgotten what my father looks like and I don't have any photos of him at all.

you're welcome
I love it when a poet can express "love" by showing many less-than-desirable attributes of the beloved . . . when everything isn't totally rosy, but there's a measure of honor & respect & acceptance anyway, & we feel it running between the lines. There's a definite sense that a chasm cannot be crossed to reach each other, together in an enthusiastic show of love (never gonna happen), yet this stubborn little seed of love, deep down inside, which cannot be quenched.

Awwww!!! I can feel narators connection with his father its enough to make a heart burst within. Its so simple yet complicated to explain a unique relationship between a father and his son and why he does what he does and why he thinks the way he thinks sometimes it may drive you crazy but in the end you love them anyway and your heart breaks a thousand different ways when you loose them along with a hilltop full of realizations that runs you over like a freight truck. Lol great job this was beautiful. :)
