On My PorchA Poem by Al R. ArceI was actually sitting on my Porch when I wrote this!
Sitting on my porch
Cold one in hand while I watch the road Looking at people walking their dogs Or fast cars driven by careless folks I'm rocking on my favorite chair Wondering how things got this way This ain't no Limbo, nor dock on the bay I'm just smoking my life away. So many hopes and dreams So many rocks and loose seams No one taught me how to evolve Now I see my principles dissolve So, I'm just sitting here drowning my thoughts In smoke, pills and alcohol Feeling the years start taking their toll While I keep forging along Everyone tells me I need to change That my ways have become strange But I'm tired of pleasing everyone else I just want to remain myself I'm watching people walking by Trying to buy a little more time While I want mine to go fast So I can see what my life will cast I'll just remain here on my porch Tomorrow I'll continue along Today, everything was done Meanwhile, I'll finish this cold one. © 2014 Al R.
