A Good Man

A Good Man

A Poem by Al R. Arce
"

This is as me as a poem can get!

"
I want to be a good man, one that stands for his believes
Unafraid to draw the line when things go really bad,
'Cause there's no in between when right and wrong combine
I just want to believe I can become a good man.

Yet I have my own things, that don't make ideals easy
Reality can be chilling, I got people that depend on me
I got bills to pay, and many burdens on my back
I hate thinking that the banks, make me fall in betray.

I think I'm a good man, 'cause I try to do things right
Responsible to my kin, I do no harm to anyone.
Is that enough? When I look the other way or simply just say nay
To strangers gone astray. Are my believes a simple bluff?

I want to do good things, hold my head proud and high
To look you in the eye, and to live in inner peace
But I can't, as I have to be the stone that my family lays upon
I just can't become a pawn of the feelings of the soul.

I may not be a good man, 'cause my strength is my weakness
My mind is in disruption, I'm first a father and a husband,
I seek forgiveness as I can't escape this corruption
I am slave of my own meekness, I wish I could be a good man.

I've been wanting to write about this topic for a long time! About the things that stop us from doing things right! One thing I've learned in this life is that wrong things can be made by good people!

is the good man Angel the man who is depended upon, works hard, looks you in the eye, yet
acknowledges that there are EVIL things in this world-corruption, unforgiveness, big banks?Or,
as this ending stanza suggests, a good man the one who understands his own meeknesses yet
continues to go forth as father as husband, as sensitive soul? This sir, is the moral idea of all human
contridictions. To that, I think this poem is far more proclamation than decloration. Only because
manhood, even if you shout it outloud, is not a legal transaction done under oath.

well written sir.

Good people make mistakes. We're all human. There isn't any such thing as a perfect person. Sometimes we gotta give ourselves a break. This guy has a conscious and understanding - and in my book makes him a good person. Sometimes we stumble, and sometimes we have to make hard choices within a no win situation. It's the overall balance, not the individual tally sheet that we should keep our eyes on. Excellent message!

I don't know. I think that the values displayed in this would indicate the writer is a good man. We all have those stresses - those obligations - but our struggle doesn't define us as "weak" because we struggle. At least that's what I pick up from this introspective, well penned piece.

A very fine poem showing deep understanding of self and human nature, the desire to be a good person tempered by social and family realities and how we all sometimes have to bend with the wind or face being broken. 100/100

Oh yes, we are all vulnerable to the woes and throes of the world, and at times we may feel as if they are consuming us!! I admire you for having the courage to be so very honest with your feelings, and for your desire to be a GREAT man, and of that I am sure. Your words say it, and I am sure you live it!!

Please don't change for the world.........be YOU!!
