If God...

If God...

A Poem by Al R. Arce
"

Coexist!

"
If God was green, would there be any need
to conquer or convert all of those infidels;
To suppress or avert thoughts of love or rebel?
Would we be in peace, if God was green?

If God was a woman, would we unite as humans?
Would we seek true love, feel the bliss from above
Of hunger be devoid of, nothing more to get sick of
Would there be no more individuals, if God was a woman?

If God was on a wheelchair, would we stop talking in whispers
Would we no longer feel envy, could we slow our own frenzy
Compassion could be plenty with our hearts no longer empty
Would we stop pointing fingers if God was on a wheelchair?

If God was but a thought with no shape, color or form
Would we finally see, that we are no better than those in need
That there really is no creed that teaches things differently
Would we be distraught, if God was but a thought?

Author's Note

Al R. Arce
I've always had this thought in mi mind, about what would happened if God were purple... Well nothing rhymes with purple so I chose green for this poem! I have always been in awe at our global inability to be able to tolerate, coexist and empathize with those who look, think, or have believes different than ours. I believe in God. I believe in the goodness of humanity. That if we embrace our differences, there is no common goal we can't achieve.

A deep philosophical poem, written in terms every layman will understand. Wouldn't it be a wonderful world if we could be peaceful and coexist? I hope that rings true for future generations - the current state of affairs definitely has me doubting the possibility, but one can hope.

Its only my opinion but I think one of the reasons people are intolerant is that they put parameters on God. He could be green or purple. He could look out of the eyes of a person in a wheelchair or a girl...we make God human and then become intolerant of humanity. Thought this poem was insightful.

What an interesting concept this is, and it's expressed perfectly. I like the internal rhymes, and just the language in general. Great write.
