Land's Edge

Land's Edge

A Story by Kinsey
"

Short story for now. Mermaid story later.

"
The dry, quiet hush of the tall grass blowing in the wind. A slight breeze is all it takes and it's a sound that tends to blend in to the background. When it's gone you realize how much you took it for granted. The whooshing of the water. Roaring sometimes, low and gentle others. Always a constant. During the day sunlight reflects off the surface like a flash. Piercing the eyes and forcing a squint. At night deceiving. How close is waters edge? Salty air, hint of fish ever pungent. A full palette on the senses, but never offensive or overwhelming. On stormy days you hide inside and listen to it rage around you. The power of Mother Nature at land's end. Sunny sands and warmth make your soul feel replenished and bright. Weightless and floating, like a bubble. Who would ever want to leave a place like this?

The mystery of the ocean, fear of it's unknown runs deep. The bottomless fathoms and inky blackness harbor only the worst of our imaginations, but what if even the most magical and improbable were also there? A shine of shimmering scales, a small melody chimes at the edge of recognition.

The story allows us to envision who lives by the sea. I am impressed with your craftsmanship, in this story. You have a gift with words. It allows us to see, what you have done. You have breathed the breath of life into the character. I thank you for writting this piece. Keep at it, let us see where you wish to take us on this journey of your mermaid. I have enjoyed this story, thus far.

Sincerely,

Liked the sound of "a shine of shimmering scales" - made me imagine them pretty vividly. Great use of words.
