Almost Easy.

Almost Easy.

A Poem by =
"

Spoken word.

"
And if I ignored all the plans we made,
All the promises we'd said and all the words
That we emptied out of our lungs.

If I ignored all the times we cried together,
All the times we laughed and all the times
That we had professed our love.

If I ignored the look in your eyes,
That look as I took everything we
once were and shattered it.

It would've almost been easy.

If I remembered you were home that day,
And had the opportunity to prepare myself
For what I knew was about to happen.

If you hadn't looked longingly into my eyes
As I spoke that which I had promised that
You would never hear in this life.

It would've almost been easy.

And if only the timing had ever been right,
In my God forsaken mind, that screaming
For me to let go of you and what we were.

And if only the nights apart hadn't have shown me,
That without you I was better and without you
I finally had a chance to be okay again.

It would've almost been easy.

Honey, if I could only extinguish the fire that burned
So thoroughly through every inch of your bones and
Every inch of your soul for me.

If you'd only known how my mind had been set free
By the time that I spent away from you, by the way
You'd left and all I felt was a sense of relief.

It would've almost been easy.

But it was never easy, not that night,
That night you came home, from so far
Away in a different place, you came to me.

And it could never have been easy that night,
I broke your heart and you wept, you wept
For the times that we shared and the times we wouldn't.

And if you had only heard the words I was speaking,
As I pleaded with you to understand all the things
I was saying to you, the things we knew were right.

Baby we were never going to be the same,
Not after all the pain and torment that we
Felt through the time we shared together.

But I guess that made it almost easy.

This is a good monologue story poem. I felt I knew what was going on throughout the writing. I also liked the play of words in front of easy. There is never anything easy about what your story is talking about and you showed that in your writing.

Well done

I'm not too big of a fan of spoken-word poetry, but I must say, you did a great job on this. I could feel the emotion and pain in every word. Nicely done.
