What Do You Do With A Broken Dream

What Do You Do With A Broken Dream

Fragments of bliss left unseen.

Where is the box to store it away?

Under the bed, I won't face it today.

Like the creatures of childhood haunting my sleep.

I lie awake and do nothing but weep.

Daddy, come quickly and chase the demons outside,

I'm afraid of the world and want to hide.

What do you do with a broken dream?

Hopes and wishes that ran out of steam.

Where is the bottle to funnel them in?

In the liquor cabinet, emptied by sin.

Loneliness and disillusion ruling my day.

I seek comfort the intoxicating way.

Lover, come back and make the pain disappear,

I promise words of love are all you will hear.

What do you do with a broken dream?

Polish the tarnish, and make it gleam.

We all hope for a life that is productive and full of love. When we realize that our vision is
different from reality and our hopes and dreams have not been achieved some seek solace in a bottle
to kill the pain. Self-medication or making love to someone just to kill the pain becomes a way of life.
As children we look to our Dad to chase away the demons but adults don't have that option.
As long as we have a glimmer of hope then we can polish the dream and keep it alive.

Good poem.

Again I sense your strength in the midst of pain! You have much to deal with, it seems, but you remain positive. For that you deserve comfort and relief. It's so hard to polish the tarnish of a broken dream.

You do exactly what you did here in this write. You expose those long ago, broken dreams, get them out into the light...and let 'em SHINE! This was a very stylish narrative, voicing regret, hope and love .NICE!

I AGREE.. THAT'S WHAT WE DO .. POLISH THE TARNISH, AND MAKE IT GLEAM ..
I STILL HAVE A FEW OF THOSE CREATURES OF CHILDHOOD, HAUNTING MY SLEEP , BUT THEY ARE FADING .. SLOWLY .. BUT SURELY ... AWAY .. ...
I LIKE YOUR STYLE ! I CAN SOOOO RELATE ..

i LIKE .. JASMINE

Very intricate.
The part
"Where is the bottle to funnel them in?
In the liquor cabinet, emptied by sin." is my favourite, it's like you have nowhere to hide from your broken dream, because of guilt from the sins you've committed.
