If I Needed You

If I Needed You

A Poem by Cree Nations

If I called, would you answer?

Or pretend you weren’t there,

And then let it ring?

If you answered would hear me?

Or just pretend by listening?

Would you give me wise words of wisdom or just the words you think I want to hear?

If I asked you to come walk with me would you come?

Or give a lame excuse and say you can’t get there to me.

Would it cross your mind that I could need your presence, if only to gain strength and comfort of having my friend walk beside me?

If I needed you would you come?

Or would I be too far away and not worth the effort to get you there?

Would you willingly stand beside me, no matter the personal cost?

Where would you be if I needed you?

Because it is oh so clear...

you are not here.
