The Walk of Life

The Walk of Life

A Poem by Cree Nations

“Will You Walk With Me”

Our walk in life is the most important one we take

If you lead

I cannot follow.

If you walk too slowly

Perchance I will pass you by

…would you even know why?

If you lead

Then you will leave me.

If you walk too quickly

Happenstance you will miss me.

Then you won’t know me.

If you choose to walk alone

Then all hope is gone.

If you lead

I shall not follow.

If you walk too rapidly

You will forfeit the gift of me.

If you lead

I will not follow.

For in your haste

Your speed laid waste

And our walk is hollow.

If needs must be…and you miss me…well then

I must walk alone.
