Chapter 9

Chapter 9

A Chapter by Kyline Freed

“Krista. Are you okay?” It’s Eve.

“You would know if you had been paying attention the past fifteen minutes.

“What’s going on between you and Kalek?” she asks me. She had taken down her hair and now it was partially curled.

“No-nothing,” I stutter, my face blooming red.

“I know something is, I heard him apologize for something and as I walked in he took off down the hall the opposite way.”

“Nothing is going on,” I repeat and walk away in the same direction that Kalek had but turned up the stairs when I got to them.

When I get to my room I go immediately to my bed and flop down onto my back staring up at the white ceiling, I lie like that for what seems like hours but was probably only minutes. I sit up my hair over my left shoulder and my right foot dangling off the bed and see Aiden standing at my door leaning against the doorframe.

No one talks for a few moments and we just stare at each other.

“How many times has that happened to you,” he asks me.

“How did you find me?” I ask, ignoring his question.

“We heard some warlocks talking saying there had been another fire so me and the God looked into it hoping it was you,” he looks at me for a moment. “I guess we got lucky,” he smirks his shoulder hitting a nail sticking out of the doorframe. It rips his shirt, blood pooling at the cut it left. “S**t!” he yells jumping back.

“Are you okay?” I ask going to his side to lift his sleeve to look at it.

“I don’t know,” he lifts the sleeve before I get the chance to, blood runs down his arm. I grab his arm and lift it up to keep the blood from dripping on the floor but when I grab it gold light comes out of it. “What are you doing to me!” he shouts, looking with complete terror at the light coming from his cut.

“I-I don’t know,” I stutter still staring in awe at his arm.

The stream of light becomes thinner and then slowly disappears, the cut leaving with it.

“Krista?” me and Aiden look behind us, me looking more to the side of me because of the way I am standing. Kalek is standing there, his mouth basically hanging open looking at us.

“H-how did you do that?” his eyes dart back and forth between me and Aiden.

Aiden pushes past me and walks out the door down the hall without taking another glance our way.

“How did you do that?” he asks me again once Aiden is out of our view.

“I have no idea,” I mutter. “Did I really just heal him?” I ask in disbelief.

“I came up here to apol-”

“You already did, and it’s not a big deal, it was just a kiss.”

His eyes go blank and a hurt look flashes over his face.

I cover my mouth with my hand realizing how rude I just sounded.

“I am so, so sorry. I-I didn’t mean for it to sound so rude. I was just trying to say I didn’t mind you kissing me.” My cheeks instantly turn red, me once again realizing what I said came out wrong.

He laughs, “cool.”

I don’t respond.

“Kalek, Krista, come on we’re leaving.” It’s Andrew.

“Where?” asks Kalek, he brushes a strand of hair out of his face.

“To the sun.”
