Behind the Veil

Behind the Veil

A Poem by A.G
"

When France banned the face veil or "niqaab" in 2011 it affected my sisters all around the world, not just there. I do not know what you may think of it but I was appalled and am completely against it

"

If words could express what she conceals,

And show the world what lies behind that veil,

Then each letter would shine,

And unlock the seal,

Which covers their eyes from the brightest of lights,

And brings forth darkness as black as night.

They would lower their gaze,

And correct their ways,

Yet still they would not know how high she has been raised.

In the eyes of the Almighty no one hold more beauty,

Than that woman who hides her chastity.

So be it.

If words could describe what she conceals,

And show the world what lies behind that veil,

The pen would crumble,

And the angels would descend,

And before the writer could finish,

his life would end.

For, if worlds could describe the heart we conceal,

And show the world what lies behind this veil,

Then the words would glow,

And the pages would run low,

But still, yet they would not know

What lies behind this veil and robe.

Author's Note

Please look at my open with an open mind and heart, hate and discrimination is not wanted and achieves nothing. I believe people should be allowed to be practice their beliefs freely as long as it does not harm others, whether its covering up your body from head to toe or vice versa.

That's beautiful and sad. I as someone who is discriminated against (for sexual orientation) I am always appalled by the hate around the world. It's nice to read a poem that truly speaks out against that. And such a wonderful poem at that.
One thing, about the structure of the poem, the line about the writer's life ending seems slightly too long for the rest of the poem, and throws the structure and sound off. Other than that, the feel and sound of the entire poem is perfect. :)

Hey, I'm okay with you wearing a veil, as long as it's okay for me not to wear one :) I like the images of the writer, the pages and the pen.
