Words are used everyday
They are a tool that translates our Spirit
They give hints of our character, if spoken in truth
To those around that can hear it
Though sometimes words aren’t as they seem
It depends on who is the speaker
And some are formed to give us strength
While others are uttered to make us seem weaker
Often in anger words are used
To bruise one’s very soul
The scar they leave will forever be
No matter how much the other tries to console
Words bind agreements, or can break them apart
It depends which way they are used
They can testify for the innocent in a court of law
Or if not spoken, continue to harm the abused
Words are taught by parents to their young
They help their vocabulary grow
And we are so proud as they begin to speak
Of course, until they repeat what we don’t want others to know
Politicians use words cleverly,
To persuade you to vote for them
Preachers use words with fire and brimstone,
Urging us to turn away from sin
Teachers use words to educate us
They help our mind expand
Activist use words to spout their cause
So others know exactly where they stand
Lovers use words provocatively
Sometimes whispered in the ear
Enemies use words to call for wrath
Pretending they haven’t any fear
So remember each time before you speak
View carefully your words of choice
The ones used tell much about you
And can determine the strength of your voice.
