Last night I dreamt

You came home from war

A changed man

Telling me you couldn't do this anymore

 

I was no longer in your heart

Telling me I should move on too

You would never feel the same way

My worst nightmare had come true

 

My heart felt as though it would explode

Thoughts racing in my mind

What can I say?

Will this feeling change over time?

 

All happiness seemed to escape me

Feeling dead inside

Like an animal being hunted

Only trying to survive

 

Only once

Had I felt my heart break

In you alone

Had I ever had such faith

 

When I awoke that morning

It was as though being slapped in the face

A possibility of later reality?

Maybe God preparing me - like a small taste

 

My conclusion, analysis, of the dream

Is the surprise in change from this war

The effect on you; for good or bad

And whether our love be kept open or closed, like a simple door
