Our City

Our City

A Poem by Katie
"

The city we once built. Is now destroyed. Love is too powerful to handle.

"
Pretty Lies.
Ugly on the inside.
You're told
You're loved.
Protected.
That no matter
How hard
That hurricane hits,
Nothing bad
Will occur.

Lies.
You lie.
I lie. It's all part
of this
f*****g
pitiful
game.

Turns out
We both lose.
I tore your house
Down.
And
You tore down mine.

It's all about
getting even.

You want happiness?
F**k that.
The storm may
Blow over.
But this damage,
Remains.

All this garbage,
Makes me sick.
You make me sick.
I make you sick.

We leave it to others
To clean it up.
To rebuild.

Yeah,
We've moved away.
To other cities.
To love again.
To destroy again.

But the heartbreak
Will never be forgotten

It sounds as though the recent Florida hurricane is being used as a metaphor for a relationship gone bad. I like the brevity and clarity of the expression. The anger and bitterness is powerfully expressed. Well done.
