This is great poem on a subject that not to many people touch on. It's such a tough thing for many girls, and it's sad to see so many young celebrities influencing other young girls to starve themselves as well. This was poem was simple and easy to read, with even a touch of irony and humor, which I think works well. It is such a dark subject... the humor brightens it up a bit and makes it easier for people to understand the truth about it. Thanks for writing this, it is refreshing to hear a male's perspective on the subject. (I don't know why I'm assuming you're a man, but I can't really tell since your name is "Notorious Reviewer", so if I'm wrong, I'm sorry and please correct me :D).
Well. I'm a "skinny" girl at five feet and one lovely inch and on a good day weighing in at around 100 lbs. I've have been told by far too many people that I'm sickly looking. But at the same time, I have been offered modeling jobs and I've worked in the fashion industry. People always want what they can't have. Fat people want to be skinny; skinny people want to be fat. I'm not saying either is the right way to live. I'm just saying that we all have our own opinions as to what looks good. And it shouldn't even be all about what looks good; staying healthy is huge!
Wow, Reviewer, Did you expect such a can of worms to be opened on your subject?! Great piece. I rather like the way you can use a simple structured poem to get people to think!
Ok, first the subject... I totally agree, but also, I never saw her as anything more than what she is. I think it is horrible how crazy this society is with being thin, or should I say, with women being thin! Thinner than thin, really. But I have to say, some women are born that way, and they shouldn't get the short end of the stick. What we need to say, is you are beautiful, in whatever way you are and you feel good in. I deal with this same s**t in my life. I gain 10 pounds, and I think... this is it! I mean, I try to rationalize, that it is normal to gain weight... but I have been groomed and trained buy the women on TV and magazines, that that isn't the way I am suppose to be. yet, I am older and more wise.... when I think of young girls, growing up, it makes me cry. The women's movement has turned into plastic surgery hell. What did they fight so hard for, so many of them died for? I'm sure it wasn't bigger b***s! Now that we have some right to use our minds, we teach our daughters to use their bodies instead. Yes, I am ranting! Bravo on your poem, it got my attention!
ha!! perfect!!! keira knightly used to be beautiful till she became a skeleton!! awsome peice, i totally agree with u. its pointless to but overly skinny, and havin a lil meat is much better looking in i think!
Sj
Here! Here! I couldn't agree more. The problem is that the skinnier they are, the fatter they think they are! It's a universal problem, the skeleton issue is on a par with the obese issue! No one seems to be able to find a happy medium...there s not enough moderation.
You need to revise this piece as there are several grammar mistakes, but I love that you wrote in favour of girls eating sensibly!
This is a great poem. I love your perspectives on the media and on what is beautiful. Yes, being thin often looks good and is highly praised.
Weight is a sensitive issue. A friend of mine is around my height (4"10...yea, I'm really short ^^) and age (19) but she only weighs 75 pounds...20 pounds less than I do! She's not anorexic, tho, I've known her almost my whole life. She is just naturally extremely skinny. It's unfair to say that "skinny" or "just bones" is gross and unattractive, as many of the reviewers of this piece have done. She's an adorable girl....not "gross" at all. In an effort to curtail anorexia I think some people take it too far, acting as though any one who is skinny has an eating disorder, or presenting the same kind of verbal abuse to skinny people as to fat people. "That's disgusting" type of s**t.
Yes, skinny is usually unhealthy, as is being overweight, and neither of those should be the "ideal" that every one should strive to attain. I think it's easy to say that rather than have super-skinny models and plus-size models we should have more typically sized, healthy-looking models and actresses.
But......remember, people naturally come in all body shapes. In an ideal world, every one wouldn't be the same shape or size. Rather, nobody would face discrimination or be made fun of for the size that they are.
Anyways, sorry about rambling. Lol. A well-done poem with a great message.
