This is great poem on a subject that not to many people touch on. It's such a tough thing for many girls, and it's sad to see so many young celebrities influencing other young girls to starve themselves as well. This was poem was simple and easy to read, with even a touch of irony and humor, which I think works well. It is such a dark subject... the humor brightens it up a bit and makes it easier for people to understand the truth about it. Thanks for writing this, it is refreshing to hear a male's perspective on the subject. (I don't know why I'm assuming you're a man, but I can't really tell since your name is "Notorious Reviewer", so if I'm wrong, I'm sorry and please correct me :D).
I tried leaving a review early this am, it wouldn't let me!
It is society and the media who tells women, all of us what we are supposed to look like ect.
I think MM was a beautiful woman , busty and lusty. I would rather have her shape anyday.
Nice poem and message!
It's the curse of being a woman. You feel like you have to live up to the magazine spreads that your husband looks at every day. I don't think you needed the :( though. The poem speaks for itself without it. :) Notice I ended this with a smiley. LOL!
i still think keira knightly is cool
and i so grew up on the twins
girls now a days do need to grow up and look and see
beauty is what shines through
not what is consumed
or worn
its the smile
the laughter
and spirit inside
and girls
eat! food is good
i love food
but like all good things take in moderation
you dont have to starve yourselves
♥
I just read a fantastic article on this very topic...
It makes me sick to think that one of the most beautiful women to ever exist was Marilyn Monroe...GOD she was BEAUTIFUL! Men wanted HER.... loved her body, her shapely figure.. She was a SIZE 16!!! OH MY GOD!! DOUBLE DIGITS!! RUN!!! And she made hundreds of thousands as a model, and even a pin up/centerfold.
I have a child and in my childbearing years here my body hasn't made me feel the greatest because I see the women in the magazines, on the commercials and think.... "Why cant I look like that??" and it often makes me feel depressed that I will never be in society's standards of beautiful...and every time I reach for that fridge I think of those women and it affects me every day and I can only pray to god that my daughter has a sense of self and doesnt define herself by society's standards.
This was a very nicely done little thought evoking piece and I think these little review boxes might see this and provoke a TON of thought and discussion on this topic.
Funny and witty in places, this is a pretty good piece.
Nice way to go about that topic. And I would like to know as well. Why DOES skinny = beautiful? I'm a big girl and have trouble even liking myself at times. But...you know? I am almost afraid of being skinny. I don't know I feel as if I'd be bare. I sort of feel safe with all this fat around me lol.
ANYHEW, great piece. I love your work, keep writing and thank you for sharing. :]]]
Why does thin = beautiful? I don't get it, I have perfect vision and I can not see it. Deny yourself food and wine? even the gods had ambrosia. I despise this in our world, vanity is a dispicable trait. I knew of a man once whose catch phrase for me was "perfect on paper", how disgusting is that. I never once said to him "you balding, small dicked, loser with no job or propects". Bugger maybe I should have. Beauty shines inside out. This is a humourous piece that deals with serious issues, thank you for this. Mx
Have to agree with 'jazzman' below and the author of this witty piece. I know being thin is perceived to be an important part of todays culture but have to behonest and say I'd rather see a happy and contented woman who is whatever size God has chosen for her than a paraniod diet obsessed anorexic waste.
Glad you have brought this topic up.
I thought ud be all funny here looking at the title and knowing a bit of how u are....but uve surprised me!!.......I think uve written a great poem on a very toubling subject.......every young girl.....who am i kidding.....even grown up women want to look all skinny!.....
