This is great poem on a subject that not to many people touch on. It's such a tough thing for many girls, and it's sad to see so many young celebrities influencing other young girls to starve themselves as well. This was poem was simple and easy to read, with even a touch of irony and humor, which I think works well. It is such a dark subject... the humor brightens it up a bit and makes it easier for people to understand the truth about it. Thanks for writing this, it is refreshing to hear a male's perspective on the subject. (I don't know why I'm assuming you're a man, but I can't really tell since your name is "Notorious Reviewer", so if I'm wrong, I'm sorry and please correct me :D).
This was very thoughtful, really. Commendable and sensitive. Well paced and thorough although a couple of lines seemed to get away from the tempo like:Spain made their models to gain some weight To join the catwalk the girls have to eat cake You've established a quickly paced poem and these just stalled it for me for a moment.Oddly, there are men like me who have the same preoccupation with keeping weight off. Maybe I'll write something about that sometime.Matthew
Yeah this is real, women spend too much time comparing themselves to the skinniest itsy bitsy women.
It's a lack of self-confidence and spiritual fulfillment as far as I'm concerned.
I like this poem, I'm not a big fan of rhyming poetry but there's comedy in this one. Well done old sport.
What a great message and so true. So many stars today are so skinny that it is painful to look at them. Then you got young girls who want to be like them. No wonder eating disorders are rampant. Great to hear a guy's perspective on this.
These stanzas are my favourites:I had a girl that thought she was too fat but her small blubber was fun to grab but she didn't want to hear that Spain made their models to gain some weight To join the catwalk the girls have to eat cake A whole chicken they just ate If Marilyn Monroe was alive she would not be a model They will tell her to go away and not even bother Too many girls want to be super thin I don't want to make love to a stick So each girl must look from within Too true. Why do all the girls want to look like actresses and pop stars?I don't want to look like Danny de Vito, Meat Loaf or Keith Richards...Great poetic rant, Notorious.
WOW! YES...okay first time is always the best...but can you top it? lol!
If Marilyn Monroe was alive
she would not be a model
They will tell her to go away and not even bother
(Marlyn was always my favorite, how did this sickness consume me?)
Too many girls want to be super thin
I don't want to make love to a stick
So each girl must look from within
(God, you are listening after all)
ANYWAY, Here's my take on this okay:
LISTEN UP EVERYONE...
BONES ARE FOR DOGS AND GRAVES...
NOT women or men...
I have an eating disorder...
I am a normal- so called "beautiful size 7"!
But compared to my size 3 that I miss, ashamedly so, I feel fat...looking at this picture
and hearing one mans take on this sickness, has made me feel sad to face myself in the mirror and call myself fat...so, pass that plate of french-fries!!! I wanna eat! (that is a good thing)!!!
Thanks for giving us a mans perspective on this awful subject!!!
Hugs Candi
I agree that everyone in hollywood is a walking eating disorder. What can you expect though, they don't live a normal life and their reality is skewed. good poem.
You are so right in this - esp about kiera knightley - she used to be pretty hot and now she is like something ugly out of the abyss. I dotn know why society got the idea that ultra skinny is hot. Maybe its all the drugs the fashion industry uses or maybe its because they are like politicians and completely out of touch with reality. Most people i know want a girl who is hot and not the walking dead. The old MTV series daria did a great piece on this about a girl who starved herself becusae she had fat eyelids and when she was finally happy with her weight everyone made fun of her because her bones and joints were clicking from the lack of body fat cushioning them. I feel your frustration on this one.
What a great look at the sad state of affairs in the warped reality in young (and even older) girls' heads these days. As a woman who has a little extra something to grab onto...thanks!
