What You Are

What You Are

A Poem by CRP

At the time

When I saw you last,

You were heading off

To go to a far away place.

You were going up

To meet your parents

That you hadn't seen

For several long years.

And I just remember thinking,

That when we part our ways

For the very last time,

You should really be leaving

With what you are.

A friend of ours

Had then asked me,

"What exactly

Would that entail?"

I have thought;

I have pondered.

I now think

I have the answer.

It would mean

You would wear the dress

That you always loved

And took care of.

It would mean

Your final bed

Would be sparkling

In your favorite pink.

It would mean

Where you would lay

Would be covered

In the softest fabric.

That would be

The only way

I could send you off

Without crying.

That would be

What you are.
