Picking Up The Pieces

Picking Up The Pieces

A Poem by CRP

I know what you're doing -

You're trying to clean up

That old mess

That had broken

So long ago.

Right after it broke,

You started picking up the shards.

You didn't stop

Even when they cut into you

And caused you pain.

Here you are -

Long after it has broken,

Trying to pick up every last shard,

Not caring how long it takes,

Picking up even the smallest pieces,

Trying to put it all back together.

But,

What if,

Just if,

You can never

Put it back together?

What happens then?
