Somewhere BeneathA Poem by Adam CrateFor years a man was digging Deep inside a mine He never found any treasure but it occupied his mind When old age caught up with him He came out to the light Wiped his brow and sighed relief but something wasn’t right The dirt he had been digging Was reflective of his mind He moved the dirt shovel in hand but truly he was blind He had missed out on his own life In hopes of something better He missed the highs, he missed the lows, he missed the changing weather Staring back into the mine He saw an endless hollow well He had nothing to show for his life nor a single story to tell And the man crossed over feeling bitter No land beneath his feet He died alone, quite ashamed His value was dirt cheap © 2012 Adam CrateAuthor's Note
