Urban Fall

Urban Fall

A Poem by Coyote Song
"

Why this?

"
autumn in the city
I'm waiting at the bus stop
avoiding the sudden rain shower
as best I can
the sun peaks out a moment
creating a burst of light
I notice a red leaf
falling from the tree beside the shelter
I watch it twirl downward
I feel a moment of intense disappointment
as I witnessed this lovely leaf
come to rest
in a bunch of flattened cigarette butts

Trash ruins the beauty of many places. The last place we lived had garbage thrown from people on the sidewalk and twice beer bottles thrown at the building. There needs to be more people with clean up jobs to clean up after littering slobs.
Imagery here is good, a sense of sadness comes through near the end. Makes me wish the leaf landed on a clean spot. Good write. Nicely done.

Such intricate imagery here. It is a shame that smokers do not dispose of their cigarette butts in a proper receptacle. The contrast of nature's beauty and human nature here is stunning. Lydi**

Thanks very much!
You create a great message in the depths of your fine words. The beauty of a falling leaf warms the heart, only for a cold reality to set in at the thoughtless people who spoil the view. Great write. Margaret

Thank you. :)
i love the last line...says it all...i lived in south Bronx for years...there was one tree per block...cluttered concrete...and no where for a stray leaf to fall, no safe ground to cushion that fall...

now i live in the woods...it is beautiful here...so many trees and just a blanket of them in fall...i want to roll around in them...no cigarette butts.

this is quite well said.

Thanks. A carpet of leaves in the fall is the best!
Yes, such sights sicken me and they're way too common. What's wrong with people that hey so willingly and happily do this? I too, which the leaf had fallen on a clean spot so the image could have been a positive one instead of a disgusting one. Great poem!!!! with lots of truth in it.
