PrologueA Chapter by Eliza PleasantJust as the sermon was about to start, he ran over to the open casket and whispered a few words into the dead woman’s ear. As he spoke, a certain aura fell over the woman. Her face took on an expression that suggested she were only sleeping fitfully. The long fingernails she had been coming into since her death started retreating. The man stood back to look at the woman. He had loved her so deeply, yet she had not known how to love him back. Although this had depressed the man, he wished that this final act of love proved to her that someone had loved her. The preacher grunted, glaring at the man who was still standing at the front of the altar. The man bowed his head in respect, hitched up the collar on his coat, and set out to leave the church. As he left, he sent a long prayer to God, Lord, if you still are my Lord, please watch over her. When the time comes, guide her to a safe place. Guide her to me. Let her know that she is not alone when she wakes up. And God, forgive us for the sins that we will both soon commit. © 2011 Eliza Pleasant |
