Welcome to Texas

Welcome to Texas

A Poem by Eliza Pleasant
"

Ehh... This poem shows what I feel whenever I see that one sign near Tatum, New Mexico. Enjoy!

"

I'd never imagined Happiness could be found

In a Sign.

Passing it filled me with such hope and joy,

That I could have died happy.

The Others did not sense my Happiness.

Which is what I wanted.

If they had sensed it,

They would have thought me strange.

Seeing the words,

"Welcome to Texas"

Made my heart swell.

My Soul did somersaults and leaps.

It sang loudly and proudly.

I remember feeling the same way at the "Welcome to Arkansas" sign when I was in the military and came home on leave. It's the familiar comfort of home, where ever that is.

I think that feeling you felt is the feeling of Home. I really like this :)

Aw, I love this so much.
This is obviously a personal piece but, humorously enough, I -too- have seen that same sign and had those same feelings on the many trips I took to and from New Mexico.
It's a marvelous coincidence don't you think? ^-^
After miles of nothing but flat land and oil drills, that sign defiantly boosted my spirits.

"Now I'm in Texas..."

Thanks for posting this and letting me relive the memories. *smile*

Great job,in many ways this reminds me of the times I would travel into the lonestar state, look
at the clouds over the border and know i was in texas, you capture the excitement
with sincerity and a creative approach that makes this a two thumbs up poem. keep it up

You did us proud with this one! Don't feel strange! Everytime I drive from Oklahoma to Texas and I see that sign I say, "Whoooohoooo! God Bless Texas! And thank God I'm back!" (and then people look at me kinda strange).

It's great to see that you have such love and pride for your home and hometown!! I unfortunately cannot relate and absolutely despise where I live and have lived! Soon enough though, I shall move to the place I can really call home! A Beautiful and Wonderful Write!!
