A Slow and Somber MelodyA Poem by MMCA Ballad about losing yourself for another
A slow and somber melody,
She strings on her guitar, A lilting tune that's telling me How close to home we are. Unhappy, yes I know, I tried to turn her tide; For months and years and more, She fought the cold inside. Heartbeat fast like pounding drum, I know it's almost there; In seconds now, behind me runs, Quickly, the iron mare. But fighting made her weary, Cut her back and forth; Stilled her soul completely, Made her weigh the worth. She sings to me to close each eye, Unhold my breath, relax; Face upturned towards the sky, Upon these railroad tracks. Shunned the fight, faced the ice, That plagued her deep inside; Couldn't bear to live this life, I lie here at her side. One last wish to touch her hair, Mare's breath upon my back; Extend a hand, she isn't there, Death scared her off the track. © 2014 MMC |
