Military Life

Military Life

A Poem by Chris Thomas
"

For my daughter.

"

Come on out,Open your eyes,
We weren't expecting you,What a surprise.
We're happy you're here,We're glad you came,
But I've got to go,Sorry I can't stay.
Months go by,I miss you so much,
It's hard to do,But I try to keep in touch.
I'm back again,But just for a while,
I hate to leave,I love seeing you smile.
Daddy loves you,Just want you to know,
When you think I'm here to stay,I turn around and go.
Sorry it has to be like this,I know it's not much fun,
Only two more years,And then daddy's done.
But for now just hang in there,And keep this on your mind,
Although you can not hold me,I'm with you all the time.

Beautifully written. You really captured what its like for a military child to have their parent come and go. I would know because my father is in the NAVY, luckally I have him home right now.
